Are You Ready for Comic Con 2017’s Ready Player One Teaser: Ready…Set…

The Facts:
Nerds across the globe have flocked to San Diego this week for the
biggest celebration of pop culture of the year. Of course I am talking abut San
Diego Comic Con, the place where all of our favourite nerdy TV shows, Movies,
Comics, you name it, get teased, announced and gawked at for 3 spectacular days
of unfiltered wish fulfilment.
And while this year’s show hasn’t really been a
massively mind-blowing experience in the realm of announcements, and I am
trying (emphasis on trying, thanks auto lay FaceBook videos) to avoid the
second wave of trailers for the upcoming Marvel and DC movies, there was one
trailer at this years convention that blew me away.

And if you couldn’t guess from the headline of this
article, the trailer was for Ready Player One, the beloved nerdom novel by Ernest
Cline that fans have been crying out to become a movie ever since its release
in 2011.
I haven’t read the book, even though almost
everyone says that anyone in love with the current state of pop culture should
do, and the teaser really doesn’t give much away about the story, so I don’t really
know much about the plot, and I kinda want to keep it that way, after all what
is life without surprise and intrigue.

But what I do know is that the movie stars and
follows a teen, played by Tye Sheridan (the newest Cyclops in the X Men series)
in a futuristic world where every corner of the planet has been discovered, and
when there’s nothing else to discover on the outside, where do people flock to?
The internet of course. But here the internet is not just simply displayed on
your screen, it is a virtual playground called Oasis that you get absorbed into
through full body VR. Here you can do anything, be anything; want to be Batman,
you an be, want to drive the flying Delorean from Back to the Future 2, just
jump right into the drivers seat because that’s possible too.
And it is this wide-eyed, wish fulfilment of bringing
all of our favourite IP’s together in one film that made this project seem
impossible to be adapted to live action, after all rights issues can become one
confusing tangled spider’s web. But when you have such a legendary film maker
behind the wheel as Steven Spielberg, the ability to get the Millennium Falcon
in your movie becomes a lot easier.
Ready Player One is said to be released on the 30th
of March, 2018, and I can’t wait.
IBRO:
Now into the trailer itself and damn does it look incredible
already. Just from the couple of establishing shots of the real outside world
of this universe, it already looks like a living breathing and conceivable
world, it doesn’t seem ridiculous that everyone and their mother would flock to
this virtual reality, not only because it damn freakin’ cool, but because it
just seems like the thing to do in this universe.
But then, the moment the trailer wisps you into the virtual
reality of Oasis, this trailer’s visuals skyrocketed to 11. A club with zero G
dancing, with oh just Harley Quinn chatting to Deathstroke on the floor below
is only the first shot of this bonkers concept and my eyes were already 200
times wider than they wee 5 seconds ago.

The huge spectacle and grand feeling of every shot in this
trailer gave me the same awe inspiring feeling the shots from the Valerian
trailers have with their incredibly beautiful interplanetary landscapes.
And the best thing is that while people could complain about
how much CGI is being used and that some can look slightly rubbery at times, in
this film that effect totally works, we’re basically in a videogame in this
film so the aspects that are usually the pitfalls of using CGI in every other
movie, actually just strengthen the concept for this movie.

And what is often the best part of videogames, the action of
course; and with a Baby Driver-esque, but on steroids, race through a mid-destruction
city being showcased as the last half of this trailer, with Deloreans flipping
midair and Akira motorcycles sliding beneath semi trucks, the action of this
feel looks to be insanely fun and crazy and I just cant wait to explore more of
this unique and awe inspiring world.
So, there are my thoughts on the first teaser for Ready
Player One, But what did you think? Comment below and whilst you’re here, why
