The Facts:
After
the release of Iron Fist on Netflix this past March, all the players have been
set on the board, and Netflix has its full cast of rough and tough street level
heroes to assemble: The Defenders. And after a teaser combining the series
logos of the teams heroes released at last year’s San Diego Comic Con, we were
more than ready for the first official trailer. And it looks like Marvel
agreed.

The
trailer was released on May 3rd and is currently sitting at
6,031,849 views on the Netflix US & Canada YouTube site with 170,406 likes
to 2,587 dislikes.
The
trailer sees the “blind ninja” DareDevil (Charlie Cox), the “Drunk Detective”
Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), the bulletproof man Luke Cage (Mike Colter),
and the ”immortal Iron Fist” (Finn Jones) team up to face the equally villainous
as they are mysterious, Hand.
Marking
an Avengers level event for the Netflix side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe,
not only will the heroes from the various corners of the streets of New York
combine, but their supporting cast will also be mingling in the party; with both
every superheroes favourite nurse Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) and Cage’s
detective friend Misty Knight (Simone Missick) making an appearance in the
trailer.

New
comers to the Marvel/Netflix world most notably include Sigourney Weaver as the
yet to be named villainess of the show.
The
Defenders will run for eight episodes, five less than the typical Marvel
Netflix show, and will be available to binge on August 18th.

IBRO:
From second one of the trailer we already get to see the
various characters from the many shows that Marvel and Netflix have up their
sleeves interact, and damn is it a treat. Seeing Murdock save Jones from a
legal scrap, or Cage take the pompous Iron Fist down a peg is already making my
nerdy heart sing with glee.
Honestly I just can’t wait to see how these four very unique
and well-rounded characters bounce, or more likely collide, with eachother
and how that all boils down to them becoming the super heroic team we all know
and want them to be.
And if it’s anything like what the trailer has hinted at,
with a Cage/Iron Fist fight that looks to be all too satisfying, and a few laugh
out loud jokes in the trailer that get me even more excited to explore the team’s
dynamic, then this show is shaping up to be another homerun for Marvel. Hopefully.
Even if Finn Jones’ stupid gruff-whisper accent is still
annoying the hell out of me.

Another aspect of the show the trailer teased us to smile
inducing results is the calibre of action we should expect from the show. After
the jaw dropping sequences seen in the first season of DareDevil, if you’re
putting him into any property, you best make sure the action is intense,
brutal, and exciting as all hell(s Kitchen).
With the few brief glimpses in this trailer, most notably the
hallway team-up fight at the end, because it ain’t a Marvel/Netflix show without
a hallway fight, The Defenders looks to be a literal kick ass show with the
team meshing their uniquely badass fighting styles to become one cohesive bad
guy stomping machine.

But on the target of this team’s many glowing fists and
unstoppable kicks, the main antagonists of the show, the Hand, lead by the
unknown character played by Sigourney Weaver, the trailer didn’t really give
any sense of them. What they’ll be doing, why they’re doing it and why it’s so
cataclysmic that it will garner all four of these heroes to unite and defeat
them, nothing was really hinted at or teased to make us really excited for
fearful for our favourite street level vigilantes.
And sadly the Marvel/Netflix shows have never really handled the ninja organisation
all that well, with them never really feeling like a tangible threat but instead
a murky myth that I guess we should fear because the shows are telling us to.

But overall I’m more than excited for this street level
team-up show. I mean, I already was, but the trailer showed just enough of the
upcoming bonds between characters, as well as getting us excited for another
awesome hallway fight, all to an atmospheric and badass alternative rock
classic in Nirvana’s Come As You Are, to get me even more excited gritty
superhero team-up that Marvel and Netflix have been building towards since
2015.
There are my thoughts on the first official Defenders
