Lee Evans Monsters Review: Hahahaha

The summer holidays are over and it’s back to the humdrum routine of work, sleep, work, sleep, work, sleep, and so on. Thankfully though there is always something out there to help ease the pain and lighten up your week. And in this case I received a real shot in the arm of up lifting and generally happy thoughts from the laughter filled night I had watching the legendary Lee Evans live at Capital FM Arena.

I have always been a big fan of this comedic genius that in the past has left me curled up in a ball in agony from laughter at the side shattering stand up routines of his I have seen on TV. So I was more than excited to see this performer of pure hilarity live on a stage before me and he definitely did not disappoint.

Every single section of the comedians set was almost surgically on point with a precise rhythm of comedy where every joke received at minimum an arena shaking laugh from the entire audience and at maximum tears of joy from the hysterically laughing and clapping fans. From his excellent physical style of comedy to his surprising range of vocal detours, that brought great charisma to every hilarious situation this phenomenal master of his craft was leading us through, there were no lulls in entertainment and even the most stern of people couldn’t help but crack a wide smile and enjoy in the festivities.

Even with his undeniably impressive success Lee Evans is still a relatable and genuinely friendly guy you could bump into in town and have a great time with. This was especially heightened by his tailoring his set to the city he is in; bringing you more into the show and being able to fully relate to the absurd ‘norms’ he is pointing his finger at and creating uproarious response from the audience. Another aspect that made this show feel so heart felt is the surprisingly heart warming finale to the whole affair that was a stark change from the rest of the preceding show but was still a thoroughly enjoyable spectacle and made Lee Evans even more of a likeable guy; who if he had the chance was willing to meet all of us personally to say thanks for coming to the show.

Another possible reason why Lee Evans has got to such a prestigious place in the comedy world his how expertly his style of comedy walks the borderline of being good fun and a crude ball of a time. Never becoming so extremely rude that a teenager has to hide his laugh from his unsuspecting parents but never too complacent that it doesn’t push to any outrageously funny heights.

Capital FM Arena was a great place to backdrop this amazing performance, the staff were always happy to help, very accommodating and welcoming. The actual stage was simple but perfectly designed so where ever you looked you could still see the action either on a screen or in the flesh. Seating from all angles gave clear and comfortable views of the main attraction meaning no matter where you were you were getting the most out of your money and not missing a single beat of the comedy. Also impressive was the lighting which gave great spectacle to witness while waiting for Lee Evans to venture out on to the stage creating a real sense of excitement in the lead up to the first almost ear aching shatter of applause and screams from the audience.

However there was one issue with the night that did affect the grand finale of the show. The impressive speakers where overwhelming loud, piercing my ear drums instead of giving me a clear presentation of what was happening so I unfortunately  missed some of the ending section due to the confusion caused by the blaring speakers.

At the end of the show and in-fact throughout the show Lee Evans was met by overwhelming applause and a standing ovation to top it all off and deservingly so. The show made my sides hurt from laughter, brought a tear to my eye (in the good way) and has kept me chuckling to myself on the memories of the night ever since, a truly up lifting experience and I would recommend everyone go and see this true talent do what he does best; make us laugh and the world a happier place.

Lee Evans Little Monsters = 9/10
