Thor Ragnarok Trailer Released: Small Galaxy

The Facts:
Rounding off Marvel’s first year of releasing three big budget, bombastic, comic books come to life, will be Thor Ragnarok in November (After Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 later this month and Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 7th). So to remind people how colossal their slate is for this year, Marvel released a trailer for the third solo Thor film on April 10th.

The trailer is currently sitting at 32,156,433 views on Marvel Entertainment’s official YouTube channel, and has 511,771 likes to 16,537 dislikes.

The film, directed by Taika Waititi (what we do in the shadows), while technically is a Thor solo film, will see his ‘work college’ Hulk (Mark Ruffelo) make an appearance as Thor (Chris Hemsworth), imprisoned on a hostile world, must fight in a gladiatorial championship in hopes of finding a way to escape and stop Hela (Cate Blanchett) – the goddess of death – from destroying his home of Asgard.

IMO:
The first thing that hits you about this trailer, and rightfully so, is how almost every inch of the screen, and sound waves being rocketed into your ears, is oozing with a neon, vibrant style that has been lacking from the Thor films up until this point.
Taking a cue from the Guardians of the Galaxy, with the toe tapping song of the trailer – Led Zeppelin: Immigrant song – being a classic rock anthem that easily could have come straight from Star Lord’s iconic Walkman, the trailer instantly bangs down it’s fists and lets you know this is going to be a different kind of Thor film.

With Thor The Dark World being the worst Marvel movie to date, the god of thunder has a lot to prove, and with the awesome eye-popping visuals already on hand in this trailer coupled with the vibrant colours of everything from the costumes of this new world Thor has found himself captured on, Ragnarok certainly seems to be mixing things up from the dark and dreary landscapes of The Dark World.
But this trailer does have me slightly worried for one aspect of the movie. And that, of course with a Marvel movie, is the villains. While Hela looks super cool, she freakin crushed Thor’s hammer, WITH ONE HAND! I get the sense that she won’t be in the movie that much, with both a sub plot on earth connecting to a certain post credits scene from last year, and the whole gladiator Hulk plots to deal with, which too have their own villains of returning menace Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and the Gladiatorial host the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), I just don’t think they’ll be much room for Hela to strut her stuff.

However this could become another Winter Soldier situation, with Hela appearing briefly throughout the movie to cause epic chaos to then bounce back into the shadows to plot her next awesome entrance.

But let’s be honest, we don’t go to Marvel movies for the villains (unless you’re a Loki fangirl/man). We go for the towering heroes. And it’s here the trailer shines. Chris Hemsworth looks to having a ball returning as the Asgardian king to be, and that shines through his performance, making this an even more enjoyable and loveable Thor to watch. And the final line of the trailer with the reveal of the Hulk had cackling with laughter.

So the trailer did what it came here to do. I’m excited, intrigued to see how all of these turning cogs will fall into place, and above all my expectations know exactly what to root for. A fun, explosive, blast of a time reuniting with two of the founding Avengers as they wreck shop through space. What more could you ask for?
